This past Saturday April 29, 2017, Atlanta painted Piedmont Park “Purple”. Over 14,000 lupus survivors, caretakers, and supporters joined the Lupus Foundation of America Georgia Chapter to Walk for a Cure. In its 11th year the walk raised over $469,000 and donations still being collected. Adorned in purple 561 teams of survivors celebrated their continual victory over lupus, supports walked for family and friends who live with lupus, and many remembered the legacy of those who lost their fight to lupus. I had an honor of walking with team Piedmont Navigators for a Cure. A team comprised of patients, physician’s, and medical staff from Piedmont Hospital. This was my first time being a walker at a lupus walk. In previous years, I was a volunteer for walks in Nashville and Los Angeles. What I love most about this walk is the spirit of the walkers and volunteers. Despite it being 80 degrees in April, a very hot day for Atlanta, people come to the park to not only walk but enjoy the day. Each team tent had banners, food, games and activities. Let’s just say next year…I want a team!!!
